CFS can provide a service to ensure regulatory compliance in the following areas:

  • Checking of, and ensuring, CNG vehicle and refuelling station regulatory compliance
  • CNG vehicle design certification/approval

Regulatory compliance

In most jurisdictions CNG refuelling stations, CNG vehicles (and CNG vehicle workshops in some jurisdictions) have to be formally confirmed as compliant with the applicable codes, standards or government regulations.

The compliance check is normally conducted by the authorised CNG installation installer, for example, the licensed CNG vehicle mechanics in the case of CNG vehicle conversions. However, in some cases the regulatory authority or the installation owner may wish to have an independent compliance check.

CFS has performed such independent compliance checks. If required, CFS's check can cover not only the installation but also the operating procedures where the applicable standards or regulations specify operating procedures.

CNG vehicle design certification/approval

CNG vehicle installation certification is normally conducted by an authorised CNG vehicle installer after the conversions.

The vehicle compliance check covers the vehicle's on-board CNG system components (such as CNG cylinders) as well as of the installation of the components on the vehicle.

In addition, in the case of serial (OEM) production of CNG vehicles, the vehicle OEM may require to conduct type certification of the particular CNG vehicle model in the client's country. CFS has conducted such work, for the Australian market, for a major multinational OEM CNG bus manufacturer.

Cylinder design verification

In many jurisdictions, e.g. Australia, applications to the regulatory authorities for design approval/registration are required to include confirmation by an independent cylinder expert that the cylinder design is in compliance with the stated cylinder standard.
